During Reading Workshop students are able to do A LOT of reading! We begin each workshop with a mini-lesson in which targeted reading strategies are modeled and discussed, followed by independent reading time, and a time of sharing and reflection with classmates.
This time is spent practicing our writing skills through authentic writing experiences. Fifth graders focus on narrative writing, opinion writing, and informational writing. Each Writing Workshop includes a mini-lesson highlighting specific writing strategies, independent practice and support, and sharing and reflection.
Math Workshop begins with an opener that gets kids minds on math. This is followed by a mini-lesson focused on the current math content. Students then move into independent practice with support, followed by sharing and reflection with classmates.
Students rotate through our 4 related arts classes:which include: Art, Physical Education, Music and Library. We label the rotations as A,B,C, and D days.
